Community Music Work
Brief
Community Music Work in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
Concept
The CMW intervention is centered around Community Music Work’s inward and outward looking programs through the use of positive and negative spaces.
Process
Arriving at the sidewalk of auburn place, the entrance is located through the side of the positive form which houses the inward programs, such as classrooms, private practice rooms, and main performance space on the second floor that houses a view towards the Manhattan Skyline.
Each of the classrooms has the ability to be divided with a system of concrete swivel doors that will give access to the courtyard and would divide each room into two.
The courtyard would be the prime location for the potluck events as well as gathering for students and members of the community.
Accessible by a ramp from the playground, the negative space dips down 16 feet below sidewalk level, with wide steps useful for seating and lounging while continuing down into the outdoor performance space, thats provides the community with music during times of use.
My concept for my CMW intervention is centered around Community Music Work’s inward and outward looking programs through the use of positive and negative spaces.
